Tips for maintaining your building
Treating Your Shed
For the best protection, we recommend applying two coats of oil-based paint as soon as a dry spell permits. Oil-based paint penetrates the wood and helps water run off, protecting your shed from the elements. We offer Barrettine Oil-Based Preservative, or you can purchase other oil-based treatments locally. Reapply two coats annually, depending on your weather conditions. Avoid using water-based paint as it only coats the surface without providing long-lasting protection.
Roof Inspections
After severe weather, inspect your roof for any damage. Check the batons, capping boards, and felt for tears or damage caused by high winds or debris. If you have a felt roof, be careful when painting to avoid damaging it. For buildings with box profile sheets, check the screws and coping for any issues.
Rainwater Management
We offer guttering and downpipes to manage rainwater, or you can install them yourself. Make sure your base is slightly smaller than the building size to allow water runoff, which helps prevent moisture damage to your building.
Windows and Doors
Check the windows annually, especially after heavy rain, for any cracks or damage. Inspect the door hinges and lubricate them after wet and cold weather to ensure smooth operation.
General Building Care
Our timber buildings are designed to breathe, so ensure you open the windows or doors during sunny periods to allow moisture to escape, especially after heavy rainfall. This helps reduce the risk of mould and damp.
Warranty and Aftercare
Your building comes with a free one-year warranty. If you encounter any issues, such as a popped-out window or a swollen door, contact us and send us pictures—we’ll help resolve it quickly. With regular maintenance, your building can last up to 30 years, just like a potting shed we replaced after 30 years of service!

Why maintaining your wooden shed matters
A wooden shed is more than just a storage space; it’s an investment in your property. Over time, exposure to the elements can lead to wear and tear, compromising its structure and appearance. Regular maintenance not only extends the life of your shed but also keeps it looking its best. Whether it’s protecting against water damage, preventing rot, or simply ensuring it remains a safe and functional space, proper care is essential. At Seven Sisters Sawmills (Sheds) Ltd, we provide you with an aftercare plan on what's best to treat your building and how to maintain it to keep it looking like new.
